KEEP LIVING
Who We Are
Sugar is a nonprofit organization founded by Shannon O’Brien, a remarkable woman who bravely fought a six-year battle with stage four metastatic breast cancer. Through every challenge, Shannon chose positivity. She chose faith. And she chose to help others.
Today, Sugar carries her mission forward—to bring light, love, and support to those facing cancer. We raise funds to directly assist cancer patients, provide comfort, and spread moments of joy during some of life’s toughest times.
Whether it’s helping cover daily needs, organizing uplifting experiences, or simply being a source of hope, Sugar is here to make sure no one fights alone.

Our Book
"It’s OK, Mama Has Cancer" is a powerful and compassionate children’s book written by Shannon O’Brien alongside her two daughters, Ani and Keely. Created during Shannon’s journey with stage four metastatic breast cancer, the book offers a way to talk with children about what cancer is, what it means for a loved one, and how families can face it together.
Told through real experiences, this book helps children understand the emotional and physical changes that come with a cancer diagnosis, while emphasizing love, resilience, and hope.
Whether a parent, teacher, counselor, or caregiver, "It’s OK, Mama Has Cancer" is a valuable tool for opening conversations and comforting children during a time of uncertainty.
